I know. I haven’t blogged this month! I appreciate all the interest in buying prints of my 30 days of illustration adventure. All I can say, is that I’m working on that. An influx of design work has keep me away from my drawing board.

However, I did meet someone here in Lawrence who is making a living illustrating. I love her work. Fun and energetic. Christy at Yellow Pencil Studio also does letterpress work and one of my clients is having some cards done with.

The past few days, I’ve realized I’ve just been working with inanimate objects and thought I’d better do a portray. So out of necessity…to use on my social networking sites…here it is.

Bright ideas a cliche?

Since the invention of the CFL, the old incandescent is now obsolete…so is the universal symbol of an idea obsolete too? Graphically, a CFL just isn’t doing it for me…there was something pure about the simple old light bulb.

Balance…or lackthereof

Stone balancing fascinates me. I decided this would be today’s illustration. Here are the words I wrote in this mini-meditation. “…a metaphor for living. Part physics, part art…if one stone is out of balance, it all falls.”

How true is this?

You notice, I’m not posting one illustration each day…this is like exercise. I need a day to recover. There’s a lot I want to explain about this journey. But I will post that when I reach the 30 day destination.

I took the weekend to do a self-critic based on the images from last week. I really wanted a more painted and drawn image and so today, this is where I’m going. The darkness of last week’s images reflects the artistic mood I’ve been in…dark, very dark. Hope you enjoy today’s illustration. I’ll probably plan on posting in the evenings now…the early mornings were killing me!

Where are Days 9 and 10?

I’ve hit a creative roadblock. Probably has something to do with the three nights of insomnia this week, but also a few reflections about the voice of the images. What are they trying to say? What is the story? This IS the creative process. While I’m challenged by it, I’m enjoying the heck out of it. So…I’m going to ask your patience while I take the weekend (a road trip in the works) to rethink content. So far, honestly, technique has been my focus. And I think I have that figured out. I’m happy with that.

Thanks to everyone who has been checking in daily, posting comments and sending emails. Your participation means YOU are participating in this creative process. Mirroring back what you see. No one can create in a vacuum. I guess that dispells the myth of the reclusive artist in his studio huh?
